Parking Island Parkette. 2015
This project used the existing brick on a parking island in Waterloo, Ontario to build a fire pit and bench parkette. The parking island has a line of beautiful mature mulberry trees and well kept grass surrounded by asphalt and cars. Our design’s goal was draw out the beauty that already existed here and to turn this forgotten space into a place to live. There is something adventurous and romantic about being on this island surrounded by a sea of concrete and cars. Spending an afternoon barbecue on this island feels like being on a deserted island.
